The Canterbury Tales (Cliffs Notes)

Good HelpThe notes are really helpful as a supplement to the book. I had to do a paper on it, and it gives a lot of insight on important topics to consider.

Careers in Art and Graphic Design
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (01 April, 2001)
Average review score:

Very good all around info for "Young" designersCareers in Art and Graphic Design is a good introduction to what the "young" graphic artist is up against. And it's encouraging. The jobs exist. We must mold the skill set to fill them. It gives solid practical information on how to form those skill sets and it's very current. It lists many occupations from Jewelry design to 3D game modeling. It also says internships are all but required. Whoosh! That's the sound of the air going out of my tires.
If I had a degree in art, a HR manager would look at it and say, "That's nice. Now show me what you can do." There's a Sports Arena full of folks with an MFA and no job. This is a portfolio driven industry. Careers in Art and Graphic Design gives info on how to get a job without a degree. It does so in a factual way.
My one compliant is that the layout isn't very attractive. Hmmmm, Maybe they should have hired me!

Cat's Cake (Barron's Fables)
Published in School & Library Binding by Children's Book Press (April, 1988)
Average review score:

Great book for aspiring bakers! My son loves this story of a cat who bakes cakes for all his animal friends. Each animal secretly adds his own favorite ingredient for an "awfully" good cake. A nice story for the 2-4 age group.

Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (Cliffs Notes)
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (August, 1988)
Average review score:

Good & to the point info on the 29 travelers. The notes focused a little too much on the characters involved and less on the actually storyline. Although thorough, it didn't feel to be in the actual order of things happening like most cliff's notes do.

Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus (Barron's Book Notes)
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (August, 1985)
Average review score:

Who doesn't want eternal damnation?I loved this book, although there were some slow points that lowered the rate, and it was just a wee bit too moral for me (also known as Christina Faust, also known as High Priestess of The Elder Gods). But I loved it, anyway. Faust is just so cool. This story makes soul-dealing really fashionable (which probably wasn't what Mr Marlowe meant in the first place). In fact, if I hadn't read it at the impressionable age of eleven, I would surely just be another bored small-town student today, instead of having infinite power over all shattered souls in this insane swirl of chaos that is Azathoths realm.

Circling Brooks

Alaska StoriesVery enjoyable book -- mixed comic storytelling with near surreal touches. Also, many interesting insights to Alaskan life in the bush backcountry.

CLAST Preparation Guide (Cliffs Test Prep)
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (July, 1994)
Average review score:

Cliff's Clast is the Bridge to College for W2W PopulationsStandard GED preparation materials are aften not enough to prepare a student to both pass a state GED examination and score well on college placements tests. Too frequently, the GED completing student scores in a range that places him in a series of remedial English and math courses for which he has to pay, but for which he will receive no course credit. Cliff's Clast Preparation Guide is a solution to this problem, markedly observed in populations targeted by welfare reform in the U.S. The text of Clast goes beyond the GED books to cement 9th-12th grade learning and build upon it step-by-step, with clear prose, problems, examples and graphics. All this challenges students and engages them in more consistent long-term study. The language arts and math skill building, along with problem-solving and critical thinking components give students what they need to succeed - the ability to figure things out rather than a dependency upon memorization. I recommend that all GED and H.S. educators pick up a copy of this Guide to help build a bridge for your students to cross to college. Don't let them fall in the river and drown.
